WHAT IS PRP PLATELET RICH PLASMA/PLATELET RICH FIBRIN MATRIX?

These are autologous and non-surgical therapeutic options for patients who require stimulation of hair, scalp and skin.

The procedure involves drawing out a sample of one’s own blood and centrifuging it in a specially designed PRP kit. The plasma with platelets is extracted from the blood sample. This plasma rich in platelets and growth factors is very useful in tissue regeneration and healing. The procedure might cause some discomfort as it involves aseptic methods of phlebotomy (drawing out blood sample) and micro injections/micro needling on the area to be treated. WHAT ARE THE EXPECTED RESULTS?

WHO CANNOT OPT FOR PRP?

Though PRP treatment yields great results for people suffering from hair loss, it’s not for everyone. Patients with history of heavy smoking, drug and alcohol use shows less prognosis. PRP therapy is not advised in case of medical diagnosis such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenaemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic Infections, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders.

THE SCIENCE OF PRP

PRP contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products. They release essential and specific growth factors to assist the growth of hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells located in the Dermal Papilla as well as other structures of the hair follicle. These special cells promote healing, accelerate the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, increase the response of body to injuries, and contribute to the formation of new cellular growth.

The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase. Platelets contain many intracellular structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules.
