At The Body Perfect Cosmetic Clinic, we have been performing prp prfm hair regrowth therapies as a proactive therapeutic option for males and females experiencing hair loss.
These are autologous and non-surgical therapeutic options for patients who require stimulation of hair, scalp and skin.
The procedure involves drawing out a sample of one’s own blood and centrifuging it in a specially designed PRP kit. The plasma with platelets is extracted from the blood sample. This plasma rich in platelets and growth factors is very useful in tissue regeneration and healing. It is then injected into the scalp or applied on the scalp after performing micro-needling in areas suffering hair loss.
People with thinning hair, androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness – hair loss at the top of the scalp and a receding hairline particularly along the temples) and women with male pattern alopecia can benefit from it.
Generally, the treatment requires about eight sittings, each two to three weeks apart for best results. Home care remedies are recommended along with the treatment course. Your doctor may also alternate between stem cell therapy and PRP as combination treatments have shown good results.
The procedure might cause some discomfort as it involves aseptic methods of phlebotomy (drawing out blood sample) and micro injections/micro needling on the area to be treated. Hence prior to the procedure, a numbing cream is applied on the area to be treated to reduce the discomfort level. In most cases, the procedure is tolerated quite well without any pain, discomfort or ecchymosis.
Patients will soon see tufts of new baby hair on the treated area after the third or fourth sitting. The treatment not only promotes hair re-growth but also strengthens the hair follicles. Initial changes in hair density and quality are seen after 1-2 months of therapy. Changes will be assessed by comparing pre & post treatment photographs and non-invasive measurement of hair density at intervals of one month after initial treatment. It is quite a safe procedure without any side-effects.
Though PRP treatment yields great results for people suffering from hair loss, it’s not for everyone. Patients with history of heavy smoking, drug and alcohol use shows less prognosis. PRP/PRFM therapy is not advised in case of medical diagnosis such as platelet dysfunction syndromes, thrombocytopenia, hypofibrinogenaemia, hemodynamic instability, sepsis, acute and chronic Infections, chronic liver disease, anti-coagulation therapy, chronic skin diseases or cancer, metabolic and systemic disorders.
PRP contains mesenchymal stem cells and autologous blood products. They release essential and specific growth factors to assist the growth of hair follicles by stimulating the stem cells located in the Dermal Papilla as well as other structures of the hair follicle. These special cells promote healing, accelerate the rate and degree of tissue healing and regeneration, increase the response of body to injuries, and contribute to the formation of new cellular growth.
The primary purpose of using PRP in hair restoration is to stimulate inactive or newly implanted hair follicles into an active growth phase. Platelets contain many intracellular structures such as glycogen, lysosomes and alpha granules. These granules within the PRP contain clotting and growth factors that are eventually released during the healing and repair process.
|Platelet||Derived Growth Factor (PDGF)||promotes blood vessel growth, cell replication, skin formation;|
|Transforming Growth Factor||Beta (TGF-b)||promotes growth of matrix between cells, bone metabolism;|
|Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor||(VEGF)||promotes blood vessel formation;|
|Epidermal Growth Factor||(EGF)||promotes cell growth and differentiation, blood vessel formation, collagen formation;|
|Fibroblast Growth Factor||2 (FGF-2)||promotes growth of specialized cells and blood vessel formation;|
